The Bognor Regis Herald is the online newspaper of One Bognor
One Bognor exists for local people to be able to discuss the future of our urban area of 63,000 people, often known as ‘Bognor Regis’.|This includes our local economy and environment, and especially Regeneration at a crucial time in our Town’s history. Also, how the area is governed. At this time, EIGHT local councils are responsible for how the area is managed:
West Sussex County Council which runs Education, Children & Adult Services, Highways etc — the Big Spender, and a Council that is in trouble at this time.Arun District Council which has responsibility for Planning, Licensing, Environmental Health, Housing etc. Like many Councils Arun faces massive problems re finance at this time.
Both these are known as ‘Principal Councils’ — in many areas now there are Unitary Councils which do both levels
There are also 6 parish-level councils — Aldwick, Bersted, Bognor Regis Town, Felpham, Middleton-on-Sea and Pagham.Of these currently ONLY Bognor and Middleton have parish councillors who have all been VOTED FOR in an election, Aldwick has only 5 out of 13 who were voted for. They spend between them over £1.5 million of public money a year. They have a wide range of powers. 3 have parish councillors whom no one voted for!
ONE BOGNOR poses the Question: Do we want this to continue or would people support a single Bognor Regis Urban Area Town Council to speak for us? Or Do the people of Bognor Regis urban area want their own Bognor Regis District Council to replace Arun (and which might also mean we do not need the 6 parish councils). ONE BOGNOR is running an ONLINE PETITION to test this idea amongst the people of the area.

We have a Town Hall already!
