Report of man’s body discovered at Phoenix Court flat
Sunday 21 August 2022. BR Herald Report.
We have a report from a friend of a resident at the block that the body of a man has been discovered in a Phoenix Court flat in Bognor Regis Town centre opposite the railway station. A resident was alerted by maggots dropping from her ceiling in her flat below. There had been reports of bed smells in the area for a while also. We gather entry was forced and the discovery made and reported. No information as yet re the identity or cause of death.

As you may know, the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) has now circulated a provisional draft of its second report, on the emotional and financial impact of that maladministration, to complainants . But the contents are confidential. Each one of the women who have complained and reached the PHSO stage will be getting their own letters. This maybe you.
WASPI have always overseen this for ALL 1950s women affected.
PHSO/DWP
The PHSO’s last year reported that “The opportunity that additional notice would have given them [WASPI women] to adjust their retirement plans was lost… Despite having identified there was more it could do, it failed to provide the public with as full information as possible” then they encouraged DWP to be “proactive” in finding a remedy for the women affected.
Wanting to reassure all, WASPI are taking legal advice on the contents of the draft second report and how best to respond to the PHSO before they finalise the report. Subject to that advice, WASPI will respond on behalf of the Campaign, and we state again the following points:
1. We strongly endorse the findings of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on State Pension Inequality for Women in their January 2022 submission to the PHSO that:
“the impact of DWP maladministration on 1950s-born women has been as devastating as it is widespread. The APPG believes that the case for category 6 injustice is overwhelming and clear. Women have had their emotional, physical, and mental circumstances totally obliterated by a lack of reasonable notice. These impacts must be addressed, if we are to reach any kind of conclusion regarding this injustice.”
1. We are campaigning for all women affected by the proven maladministration at DWP to receive fair, fast, one-off compensation for the impact that this has had on their lives.
2. When a determination of compensation for this maladministration is made by government, the most should be due to those who received least notice of the longest increase in their State Pension age.
STATISTICS
In the fourteen months between the first report being published and now, approximately 35,000 of the affected women have sadly died. More than 220,000 have died since WASPI began its campaign in 2015. Another affected woman dies every 14 minutes.
ACTION
It remains a political decision by THIS GOVERNMENT NOT TO HEED the PHSO’s advice to be ‘proactive’ in finding a remedy to the injustice. Thank you to everyone who has signed our open letter to the two Conservative leadership candidates on this subject. Please do sign if you haven’t already and ask family and friends to do so too.

This week I joined the Sussex Roads Policing Unit and a Casualty Reduction Officer who were out with the Hastings Community Speed Watch group checking the speed of road users in St Leonards-on-Sea.
As one of nearly 300 Community Speed Watch (CSW) groups in Sussex, the volunteers use the Operation Crackdown online platform to report road users exceeding the speed limit to the police.
I was dismayed to have witnessed so many vehicles speeding — it equated to more than one for every minute I was there with the volunteers and police officers.
The details of those committing a speeding offence were noted and passed to Sussex Police who can use this evidence to take action against them.
I am extremely appreciative of the volunteers running the CSW groups across our county and of the police officers working hard to keep our roads safe. As road users, we all need to remember that the speed signs we see are a limit, not a target.
For those of you who want to see the impact a collision can have on lives, Durham Constabulary released a sobering video about the dangers of using a mobile phone at the wheel. The video features moving interviews with the offending driver, witnesses, police officers and a relative of the victims who sadly died in the collision. You can watch the video on their YouTube channel.
Funding help for Hailsham club
On Tuesday evening, I visited Hailsham Boxing Club who are a recipient of the Safer In Sussex Community Fund. The club runs training sessions for children and adults of all ages.
The club was established by the inspirational Sam Buchanan, who has been boxing since childhood. He told me that competing and training keeps children engaged and a sport such as boxing teaches them discipline, respect and courage. During lockdown, he offered free boxing training sessions in a field in Eastbourne to help people through a particularly tricky time.
This was a huge success with the local community and shortly after, they were able to secure The Warehouse in Hailsham which they have since transformed into a boxing club.
As well as teaching boxing, the club also offer outreach programmes to support those needing help in the local community. They are currently working with Knife Crime Matters on an anti-knife carrying campaign.
The club are also going to start running maths and English lessons with qualified tutors. The aim is that members will participate and reap the benefits of these lessons as they will be held in the familiar gym environment.
I am delighted that the funding I have provided will allow the club to reach their goals of increasing their facilities, providing additional programmes for children and young people to learn about community safety whilst keeping fit and meeting role models. I look forward to seeing the club go from strength to strength in the future.

Appeal after teenager assaulted in Bognor:
Police are appealing for witnesses after a 15-year-old boy was attacked in Bognor.
The victim was left with serious facial injuries after he was kicked and punched by four other boys in Hotham Park about 8pm on Friday (August 5) before the suspects made off from the scene. Officers attended and carried out an extensive area search, but with no trace.

Seaton Park, Wick — Overnight between Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 August, two residences were burgled, and a white BMW one series was stolen. Serials 0277 & 0384 11/08.
Courtwick Road, Wick — In the early hours of Thursday 11 August a residence was burgled. Nothing was stolen. Serial 0201 11/08.

Climping Street, Climping — On the morning of Monday 8 August a residence was burgled. Cash and jewellery were stolen. Serial 0370 09/08.
Walberton — On Tuesday 9 August a large field was set alight — it is believed that this was a deliberate act. Serial 1038 09/08.
